Directions

How to get there Arrival by plane The nearest Domestic Airport is Dharamsala Kangra Airport, Gaggal (DHM), roughly 60-90 minutes drive from Bhagsu. The Airport is well connected to a spectrum of cities in the country. The second nearest International Airport is Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar (ATQ) roughly 218 kilometers from the city. It is well connected to several major cities like Pathankot, Dalhousie, Delhi and Jammu.

Arrival by bus Most people come to Dharamsala by bus, as the nearest rail-head is at Pathankot (Punjab), around 90 kilometers away. It has good connections with other parts of Northern India, although the journeys are often slow due to the narrow, winding roads in the hills.

The main bus terminal is in Lower Dharamsala, but some public HRTC buses to Delhi and Pathankot go all the way to the main square of McLeod Ganj, where you can also book advance tickets for the return trip.

Buses from Pathankot cost around Rs 120 and take 4 hours to reach Dharamsala/McLeod Ganj. Once in Dharamsala, if your bus does not go all the way to McLeod Ganj, another bus can take you the rest of the way for 14 Rs. and a journey lasts approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

Private bus companies are available for travel from Manali, Dehradun and Delhi. Overnight buses operate from New Delhi with many leaving from the Tibetan colony of Majnu ka Tilla. These services take around 13 hours and cost from 600 Rs for a basic bus to 1100 Rs for a plusher Volvo. Tickets for Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC- A State Government body) can be booked online from Chandigarh, which is 236 kilometers far from McLeodganj, and a gruelling 8-9-hour trip in an ordinary bus.

Arrival by train The nearest broad gauge rail-head is at Pathankot and the neighbouring small station of Pathankot Cantt, a comfortable overnight journey from Delhi. Train buffs can continue on the very slow and rickety, but pretty Kangra Valley Railway to Kangra, a journey that easily takes up to 6 hours and still leaves you around 25 kilometers from McLeod Ganj. Many travellers choose to continue from Pathankot towards Dharamsala by bus or taxi. If you do choose to travel to Kangra by train, then from the train station, you will need to hire an autorickshaw to reach the bus stand, where buses are available to take you to Dharamsala.

If coming by Pathankot station (PTK), the Pathankot bus station is just across from the railway with buses plying for Dharamsala. Pathankot Cantt (PTKC) is 3-4 kilometres from the bus stand/PTK station - rickshaws are aplenty. The 4-hour bus ride to Dharamsala costs 120 Rs. per person. Once in Dharamsala, another bus can take you to McLeod Ganj for 14 Rs., and a 15-20-minute ride.

Testimonials for Banjaara Yoga and Ayurveda

" What a wonderful duo! Madhura and Jose are inspiring teachers who are frofoundly earnest in every aspect of their practice. They are deeply committed to instilling a sense of powerful devotion in their students - with no excuses! I am honoured to have studied under these two incredibly genuine Yogis."
ALLIE REITZ

I got certified for the 200Hr Multy Style TTC in Goa the past week. It's been one of the best experience of my life. Jose and Madhura are amazing teachers, they put passion and huge efforts in what they do every single day. It's been very hard but they were always there to give you support. I thought Yoga was not for me because I am not extremely flexible and because I did not have enough experience. Unfortunately the real Yoga is not practised in every country and not from all Yoga teachers. Yoga is not reaching your toes or doing extreme postures. I have been lucky to attend this course with them because I could know what Yoga really means and how to teach it. I'll do my best to be a good teacher and to spread the knowledge to my students. Namasté

Hey! This is my review of the 200 Hour Multi Style TTC in Dharamshala. I decided to do this course in spite of never having been to a yoga class before. Probably an odd choice, but I really wanted a break from life; particularly the cigarettes, drugs & alcohol, and this just seemed to fit the bill. Glad to say it turned out to be just what I needed! It was a crazy month with quite a few ups and downs (pun intended). There were times when I felt overwhelmed, but Madhura & José were patient and supportive enough to guide me through it. “What’s important is progress”, they’d say; and that’s really what kept me going. We covered pretty much everything they’ve mentioned in the course description on their website. It’s a lot to digest, especially in just one month, but it provides a good foundation to build upon. And that’s exactly what they aim to provide, an introduction to real yoga - devoid of hype and false information. To wrap it up, the course was intense but informative. Madhura and José are delightful and genuine; I feel fortunate to have found them as teachers. The only disappointment for me was the yogic food package. I felt that there were better options in and around the vicinity at that price.

Baanjaara Yoga, Some how has changed my perspective about life. I feel, i've become more positive about everything. I've also found a direction in my life. Madhura and Jose are both very genuine people. What you see is what you get. No B.S. here. At times it was difficult because of so much information had to be learned in a month's period but in the end it was very rewarding. i enjoyed all the classes, practice sessions and practicums. well, maybe not alignment classes :) But, now i know how important alignment classes were. I feel like i had pain in my knees because of incorrect alignment. well, i would like take this time to thank Madhura and Jose, for imparting the knowledge of what Yoga really is and how it should be practiced. I truly appreciate it. And, also thanks to kanshit, my fellow students, Ricky and his staff for making it memorable. Thank you again.
Tenzing Lama

I did my TTC with Madhura & Jose in May and the knowledge that these two wonderful people gave me was just priceless. Five months on and Im still using this knowledge daily. I was at Banjaara Yoga and Ayurveda May 2017. The setting of the school in the foothills of Himalayas is amazing. Bagsu is a lively place and Macleod Gang is even livelier. I cannot even describe how privileged I felt to be able to experience this setting and to learn the practice of Yoga with such great people and experienced teachers. Madhura and Jose aim to tie together the traditional ideas together with contemporary teaching techniques. This style of teaching allows both a depth of knowledge and a freedom from which to develop your own individual style. Madhura has the uncanny ability to identify your greatest weakness, force you to face it and through disciplined practice will turn the defeat of that weakness into a personal triumph. Jose is a natural teacher. He awakens both meaning and understanding from the traditional teachings. He is relaxed and approachable yet commands a natural respect from the students. His teachings of Pranayama and Yoga Nidra were my favourite parts of the course. It was a magical experience when I felt I tapped into the mystery and the meaning of Yoga. Namaste 🙏💖💖💖

Hi there!! I just loved Banjara Yoga & Ayurveda and Madhura and Jose, as both of them are so passionate and know so much about yoga that after my two weeks there my practice hasn't been the same anymore: I feel much more confident, I have been helping friends and family with different asanas and pranayama and more important of all, I am more curious about learning more about this ancient practice, as I think that this is just the beginning on my own journey and self-discovery. Thaaaaaaanks sooo much, Madhura and Jose and all the team for that and for being so aproachable and generous with sharing your valuable knowledge!! All the best guys!

It was incredible and important experience in my life. Both teachers and all the team was working hard to lead us to real yoga and understanding of teaching. I would not say it will be easy way - but it will worth your time, your money and your effort, and it will change your life in a positive way. Thank you, Madhura and Jose, for all the things you've done for us!

I got certified by Madhura and Jose in June 2017 and honestly it was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. The amount of knowledge that I learned including both the traditional and modern teachings/practice of yoga was the most rewarding experience. They taught me so much about the philosophy, history and technique of yoga that the wealth of knowledge and experience that I gained is absolutely priceless. The course definitely kicked my butt, but I am so much stronger than I was before! I learned so much about myself throughout this journey and I couldn't be more grateful to Madhura and Jose for bringing me there. I'm officially starting my yoga teaching job here in the US and bringing in all of the traditional concepts I learned at Banjaara into my classes and into the western world. Thank you so much for seriously helping me confirm my calling in life...you both are amazing teachers.
Nadeya Hassan

Big thanks Madhura and Jose for all the knowledge you share with us. I am really glad to choose Banjaara Yoga school to learn Yoga. Was hard to do that in a month but what i acquired in that little time is much more than I was expected. It change my lifestyle and my way of practice. I am motivated 100% to continue my raising in this beautiful philosophy's world.

Choosing Banjara Yoga School was a difficult choice as there are so many options and it was hard to pick. However it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made as this course was perfect from start to finish. The lessons I learnt and the confidence it gave me will last for a lifetime. Madhura and Jose are the best teachers I could have asked for - their teaching styles and knowledge perfectly complemented each other. They don't cut any corners and made sure that we knew above and beyond what was required on the Yoga Alliance syllabus. Their passion and knowledge was evident with every single class and I can't thank them enough for this as I am now teaching my own classes which I never thought I would feel confident enough to do so soon after! Thank you Madhura and Jose and I hope to see you again one day, maybe I will join your 300 hour course in Mexico! :) <3

It was an amazing month spent in Banjaara Yoga School. I’ve learned so much from Madhura and Jose, two honest people that I appreciate very much. They shared their extensive knowledge and experience with us with full passion and dedication. They love yoga, they are constantly learning and love to share it and see students evolving. I am very happy for having done the TTC in this school and I strongly recommend it if you are looking for a very special experience and really want to learn a lot.

I am truly impressed and full of admiration for both Madhura and Jose who helped me obtain invaluable knowledge about yoga. I had an amazing time - the whole experience was not only good for my healh but also wonderful for my inner state. Each and every of the classes is extremely useful and helps the students get a deep understanding about yoga and what it is to live a yogi life. Thank you for the wonderful experience! I would definitely choose Banjaara Yoga & Ayurveda in case I decide to have another TTC.
Bilyana Svetlinova

Completing my teacher training with Banjaara Yoga was definitely one of the best decisions of my life. Madhura and Jose are both truly passionate teachers with the perfect mixture of traditional and modern practice. I learned much more than I imagined. They make practice challenging for all skill levels both physically and mentally. I left with confidence in my teaching style and now teach at a small studio in Southern California. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the world Madhura and Jose! I had an awesome time.
Charise Dawn

I was fortunate and blessed to have come across this teacher training online. The description, timetable and teaching style mentioned looked spectacular, and indeed it was. Madhura and Jose- thank you! I am extremely grateful for everything I have learnt in the short time I had at Dharamshala. Madhura is a bowl of knowledge, the one we turned to for every obstacle we faced. She constantly guided us through daily practice, philosophy classes and gently kept reminding us how it is all about moving inwards. Jose was our pillar through this intensive course, patiently going through breath-work, alignment and he always had an answer to help the students get through anything. Both are such amazing gurus, and whether one wants to simply improve their asana practice, or know more about Yoga..I would say GO FOR IT! Doesn't matter if you're a beginner or not. At Banjaara Yoga, we got to taste different elements of all that a Yoga course offers- a strong practice, the philosophies Yoga is based on, breathing right, different schools, sequencing techniques, finding balance, cleansing methods...there was so much to learn in the little time I was there, and obviously a teacher can make all the difference. Thank you Madhura and Jose..again I say- I feel extremely blessed. Namaste.

Truly one of my best experiences in India! Banjaar Yoga School in Bhagsu, Dharamsala was undoubtably the best choice I could have made for my TTC. Both Jose and Madura are exceptional teachers - they have a vast understanding of yoga and it's traditions, while still remaining humble in that they always have more to learn. Their approach to teaching and sharing their passion for yoga is inspiring. I have learnt so much more than I expected during this 200hr TTC. My time with them was filled with fun and challenging asana classes, really interesting philosophy talks on culture and the history of yoga, enlightening ayruveda sessions from the esteemed Dr. Arun Sharma and an array of practices I hadn't even heard of before - amazing pranayama breathing techniques, nauli, jala and sutra neti and so much more. I especially enjoyed the adjustment and alignment classes which really helped me pinpoint areas where I'd been going wrong in my own personal practice. If you seriously want to learn about real yoga and ayruveda from people who truly love what they do, then this is the place for you. :)
